Aminoglycosides, such as tobramycin, are antibiotics that belong to a class of drugs called aminoglycosides. These antibiotics are used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, such as eye infections (such as conductivities), meningitis (such as meningitis), urinary tract infections (such as urinary tract infections), and lung infections. Benzalkonium chloride, also known as benzalkonium chloride antiseptic, is used as an antiseptic before surgery, for minor wound care, to reduce the risk of infection. It can also be used as a cold sore care. This medicine can be used for a variety of other purposes; please consult your healthcare provider/pharmacist if you have any questions.
This combination of Tobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution IP 0.01%v/v eye drop is generally used to treat infections in our eyes and bacteria present in the eyes. Bacterial infections are caused by bacteria that grow in your body. These infections can be caused by infectious or harmful bacteria, which are harmful bacteria that produce chemicals called toxins. These toxins can harm your tissue and cause you to become ill. Aminoglycosides inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with the protein synthesis of the bacteria and disrupting the cell membrane, resulting in cell death. This antibiotic is active against various Gram-Negative bacteria and Gram-Proteins like Staphylococcus Aureus. It is not effective against other infections such as viral infections, fungal infections, parasitic infections, etc.
Directions to Use
- FirstlyTobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution is prescribed by your medical healthcare professional for the treatment of certain eye infections. Do not use this medication for another purpose.
- Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or hands, to let it clean and germ-free.
- Shake the dropper properly before every use it will ensure, that all ingredients are properly mixed.
- Lay down or sit down while looking upwards, create a pocket in your lower eyelid with the help of your finger and apply the volume of drops inside the pocket.
- It is best to rest for about 2 to 4 minutes for the proper absorption of the medication inside the eye.
Side Effects
Some of the side effects can occur which gradually disappear over time and usually do not require any kind of medical attention or treatment. If any of these side effects stay for long periods, it can be a bad sign. Some of these side effects are such as –
- Tearing
- Eye redness
- Eye discomfort
- Eyelid itching
- Swelling
Serious side effects are rare, somehow if they may occur then tell your Doctor or Medical healthcare professional ASAP. Some of these serious side effects are such as –
- Fungal Eye infection
- Rashes
- Itching
- Swelling (especially of the face, throat, and tongue)
- Unbearable pain
- The reddish colour of the eyes
Precautions
- Before using Tobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution tell your doctor or medical healthcare professional about eye problems and allergies if you are suffering from them because this medication contains ingredients which are not good for allergy-suffering patients.
- Do not start or stop the treatment with Tobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution even if you feel better than before, stoping can cause the return of the infection and in that case, the treatment will become difficult. Starting this medication without a prescription can cause serious side effects.
- Somehow if you forget to take the dose, so take it as soon as possible. And if it is almost time for the next dose then you can skip the earliest one, do not double the dosage it can cause damage.
- Do not use any other eye drops while having treatment with Tobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, if you are already using any other eye drops do consult with your medical healthcare professional before using.
- Caution this medication is only prescribed for pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers when it is required. Also, tell your doctor before using Tobramycin 0.3% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution if you are planning to be a mother.
